Software Technical Lead

The Position

Join the Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) R&D organization within the TEM Modules Software group, developing advanced software for reliable, safe, and efficient imaging and sample handling solutions.

As a Software Technical Lead in the Vacuum Software Team, you will lead the design and development of software for vacuum systems used in High-End and Mid-Range TEM products. You will provide technical leadership across the development lifecycle, ensuring robust architecture, software quality, and effective collaboration across teams.

Working in an Agile team within a SAFe environment, you will collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Owners, Test Automation Engineers, Scrum Masters, and System Architects.

Development and validation are primarily performed on TEM microscopes and test benches. Success in this role requires strong system-level understanding of software-hardware interactions and customer workflows, translating this knowledge into scalable and maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across the software team and distributed sites
• Design, develop, and maintain software for vacuum control and monitoring systems
• Drive software design and technical implementation decisions
• Translate requirements into effective technical solutions
• Contribute hands-on to implementation, code reviews, debugging, and root cause analysis
• Coordinate software-hardware integration and troubleshoot complex system issues
• Coach engineers and promote knowledge sharing
• Support technical planning, estimation, and risk assessment
• Drive improvements in software quality and engineering practices

Education and Experience

• Experience developing software for complex multidisciplinary hardware/software systems, such as control software or mechatronics products
• Proven technical leadership experience in Agile development environments
• Experience with system integration, software architecture, and lifecycle management

Technical Skills

• Strong software engineering principles, design patterns, and development practices
• Proficiency in C++ and C#
• Experience with UI frameworks such as MFC, Qt, or WPF
• Familiarity with COM
• Experience with unit testing frameworks such as NUnit and GTest/GMock
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, and DevOps practices
• Experience with software quality, code reviews, and defect management
• Knowledge of JIRA and TestRail
• Familiarity with Model-Based Testing (Axini) or BDD is an advantage
