Cloud Infrastructure & Automation Engineer

Help us keep our infrastructure reliable, improve how we deploy software and make everyday IT work smoothly for our teams.

At TBS Biometrics, you will manage a hybrid environment combining Linux systems, Proxmox virtualization and Microsoft Azure. You will work closely with developers on deployment and automation, while also supporting employee IT services.

This is a hands-on role with room to influence technical decisions and see the results of your work. Together with the CTO, you will prioritize operational tasks and improvements within your agreed part-time capacity.

At TBS Biometrics (Touchless Biometric Systems AG), we develop secure identification solutions based on advanced biometric technology. Headquartered near Zurich, Switzerland, with a development subsidiary in Brno, we are a small, globally recognized biometric specialist trusted by major security integrators.
Our portfolio includes 2D/3D biometric terminals, mobile applications, card readers and the cloud-based BioManager platform. Our solutions serve critical infrastructure, banking, government, education, logistics and hospitality, with a strong focus on security and data protection.
We operate internationally with teams in Switzerland, the Czech Republic, UAE, KSA, LATAM and the USA. Our Brno office is a key hub for software and hardware development.

In this role you will

Infrastructure and reliability

• Administer Linux systems, Proxmox virtualization and Microsoft Azure environments used for development and production.
• Manage networking, connectivity, DNS, and Cloudflare services.
• Maintain monitoring and alerting using Grafana, Prometheus and Loki; maintain incident response procedures, troubleshoot incidents and address their root causes.
• Maintain backups, test recovery procedures, and improve operational security through access controls, updates, and system hardening.
• Monitor capacity and cloud costs and recommend practical improvements.

DevOps & automation

• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes in cooperation with software developers.
• Use scripting and Infrastructure as Code to reduce repetitive work and make infrastructure changes consistent and repeatable.
• Maintain internal engineering services, including Git repositories and the Docker registry.
• Gradually introduce useful automation and AI-assisted workflows in cooperation with engineering and business teams.

Employee IT and workplace services

• Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, user accounts and access rights.
• Administer Microsoft 365 and manage software subscriptions and SaaS licenses.
• Prepare and manage company laptops and mobile devices, including configuration and compliance policies through Microsoft Intune.
• Provide first-line IT support and coordinate specialist assistance when needed.
• Keep IT documentation and asset records up to date, and coordinate hardware purchasing, repairs and replacements.

Skills and experience

Must have

Practical experience administering Linux systems and managing cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
A solid understanding of networking and the ability to troubleshoot infrastructure and connectivity issues.
Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
Scripting skills in at least one of Bash, PowerShell or Python.
Experience supporting Windows users and handling common account, software and device issues.
The ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and document your work clearly.
Good written and spoken English for international collaboration, and Czech for day-to-day employee support.

Nice to have

• Microsoft 365 administration, Microsoft Intune and identity and access management.
• Proxmox or another virtualization platform.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code or configuration management tools, such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Gitea, Buildbot or Azure DevOps.
• Grafana, Prometheus and Loki.
• Cloudflare, backup and recovery testing, or IT asset management.

Education

Relevant technical education in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
